Great women have paved the way for years and leveled the playing field for working women in the 21 st century. Because of this, gender roles are ceasing to define a person in society and the workplace. This Women’s Month, we’ve decided to show our appreciation towards female property practitioners by diving deeper into their daily lives. As exceptional as they are, they unfortunately still face challenges.
Safety Comes First
As a woman, safety is something that’s always on your mind. For starters, your photos and information are all public when you’re working as a property practitioner. It’s an essential part of the job but it could also leave you vulnerable to stalkers. This aspect of being a property practitioner makes the job all the more challenging for women. For this reason, women need to take extra precautions by meeting with potential male buyers or tenants at their offices before showing them a property, sending their location to friends or co-workers, or bringing someone they know along to open houses.
“No Amount of Money Or Success Can Take The Place of Time Spent With Your Family”

Balancing family and work is a challenge for all working moms. Women generally feel the pressure of needing to prove themselves at work while simultaneously managing the guilt if success comes at the cost of time with loved ones.
As property practitioners, last-minute appointments are the name of the game. You find yourself dropping everything and running out the door when a client requests your services. Unfortunately, this often means not being able to help your kids with homework, missing family dinners, or not putting your kids to bed. As a mom, this special time away from family can be emotionally taxing. Women, therefore, need to learn how to manage and separate their work and family time so that they find a perfect balance to prioritize all things that matter most to them.
Avoiding Burnouts
Life as a property practitioner is unpredictable. Some days you may have 12-hour back-to-back appointments and some days your work could be a breeze! When on the run, it’s sometimes easy to let the unpredictable nature of the business get the better of you. Women can sometimes be so dedicated to their careers as they’re trying to prove themselves to society, that they forget to schedule times for themselves. Avoid this as much as possible! It’s difficult to take care of everyone else around you, whether it’s family, friends, or clients if you aren’t taking care of yourself.
Working as a female property practitioner can be an incredible thing. Women truly bring plenty to the table. With compassion, empathy, and the fortunate ability to multitask, women can make the most of an awesome career and show future generations of female property practitioners what is possible.
Here’s to all the female property practitioners in South Africa – Happy Women’s Month!
